Limestone Sits Close to the Surface
Guelph gives its name to the dolostone formation beneath it, and across much of the city that rock sits close enough to the surface to meet a digging bucket. Where it does, a full-depth excavation stops being a machine job and becomes a design question: raise the finished level, adjust the base build-up, or move the feature a metre. Excavation and Base
The area is dug to the depth the ground allows, geotextile goes down, and compacted granular is built up in lifts and carried past the finished edge. Where bedrock limits the dig, we adjust the build-up and the finished level rather than pretend the depth is there.
Build and Finish
Stone laid and cut, edge restraint fixed, polymeric sand swept in and set, then final compaction. For a lawn it is graded soil, sod cut that morning, and a heavy first watering. Either way the site is swept and cleared the same day.
