Interlock & Hardscaping in Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge
Driveways, patios, walkways and steps built on a base that survives Ontario freeze-thaw. Family-run, fully insured, serving all of Waterloo Region.
Why Interlock Outlasts Concrete in Waterloo Region
Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge sit on the Waterloo Moraine, where the ground changes street to street — sandy gravel through much of it, heavier silt and clay loam nearer the river flats. What does not change is the frost. Regional design depth sits near 1.2 metres, and frozen ground lifts whatever is sitting on it. That is what decides which surfaces survive here and which crack.
Thousands of Joints, Zero Cracks
A poured slab is one rigid piece, so ground movement cracks it straight across. An interlock surface has thousands of joints — it moves a millimetre at each one and settles back in spring. Almost every driveway replacement we are called to is a failed concrete slab, not failed pavers.
The Base Decides the Lifespan
The difference between interlock that lasts twenty-five years and interlock that sinks in three is entirely underneath it. We build 8–12 inches of compacted Granular A over geotextile, compacted in lifts rather than all at once, with the base extended past the finished edge.
Repairs Are Local, Not Total
If a concrete slab cracks, you replace the bay. If a paver stains or a section settles, we lift that area, correct the base and relay the same stones. No colour mismatch, no demolition, no full replacement cost.
What We Build in Interlock
Three surfaces, one construction standard. Every build gets the same base preparation, edge restraint and polymeric sand finish — the only thing that changes is the load it has to carry.
Interlock Driveways
The heaviest-loaded surface on your property. Deeper base, thicker pavers, and edge restraint that stops the perimeter spreading under vehicle weight. Also searched as driveway pavers.
Interlock Patios
Outdoor living space sized around how you actually use it — dining, seating, fire feature. Pitched away from the house so meltwater drains to the yard, never the foundation.
Interlock Walkways
Front entries, side paths and garden connections. Width and drainage matter more than looks — a path that ponds in November is an ice sheet in January.
Paver Styles That Suit Waterloo Region Homes
The right paver does more than perform — it sets the character of the property. Whether you own a century home in Galt or a new build in Vista Hills, the format and tone should match the house.
Modern & Large-Format
Large-format pavers with smooth textures, clean lines and minimal joints. Laid in linear or modular patterns, they suit contemporary builds across Vista Hills, Eastbridge and Doon.
Classic Cobblestone & Tumbled
Tumbled edges and blended earth tones that mimic cut stone. Ideal for adding warmth and period character to older properties in Galt, Preston and Westmount.
Permeable Interlock
Wider joints filled with clear stone let water drain through the surface instead of running off it. The practical answer for lots with drainage problems or municipal stormwater requirements.
How an Interlock Build Runs
Transparent from the first visit to the final sweep. You get a written quote, a scheduled start date, and a crew that cleans the site before leaving it.
On-Site Consultation
We measure, check drainage and grade, and walk through paver options on your property — not over the phone. You finish with a written, itemised quote.
Layout, Locates & Excavation
Utility locates booked, edges marked, and an access route agreed so we are not driving equipment across your lawn. Typically 12–18 inches of excavation for a driveway, less for a patio or walkway.
Base, Laying & Finishing
Geotextile, then Granular A compacted in lifts — this is where the lifespan is decided. Then bedding sand screeded, pavers laid and cut, edge restraint installed, polymeric sand swept and set, final compaction.
